AS Roma are preparing to launch an offer to re-sign Sassuolo midfielder Davide Frattesi, according to Calciomercato.
The Italian came up through the youth ranks at Roma before joining the Neroverdi on a permanent transfer for around €5 million in the summer of 2017.
Frattesi spent the next three seasons on loan stints at Ascoli, Empoli and AC Monza before establishing himself as a prominent part of the Sassuolo squad in the 2021/22 campaign.
The 23-year-old lit up Mapei Stadium with several eye-catching performances last season, rippling the net seven times in 36 Serie A outings.
His impressive displays earned him a place in the Italian national team set-up, and he has since made five appearances for Roberto Mancini’s side – although he is yet to open his goalscoring account for the Gli Azzurri.
Frattesi has attracted interest from nearly all the top teams in Serie A while also boasting admirers from the Premier League.
One of the clubs interested in his signature is his former side Roma with the Giallorossi looking to capitalise on the terms of his transfer to Sassuolo in 2017.
Roma retained a 30% sell-on clause when Frattesi joined Sassuolo six years ago. The Neroverdi now value the player at a reported €35m.
However, given the sell-on clause, Roma would not have to stump up the full sum and would take home a significant chunk of Frattesi’s transfer fee if he were to move elsewhere.
Roma are prepared to offer Sassuolo an initial €10m with a further €11m plus €3m in bonuses in a year.
Most of the money from their initial offer comes from the recent sales of Cristian Volpato and Filippo Missori, both of whom joined Sassuolo.
Roma’s proposal will total €24m which would take the Giallorossi’s valuation up to a figure between €31-32m if the value of the sell-on clause is included.
If Sassuolo reject their offer, Roma have already lined up other targets as they look to replace Georginio Wijnaldum, who has returned to Paris Saint-Germain after his loan deal expired.
They could return to PSG for Renato Sanches, while former Manchester United loanee Marcel Sabitzer is also available, with Bayern Munich keen to offload the Austrian.
