After positive contacts between the Giallorossi and Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini earlier today in regards to the coaching role at the capital club next season, Roma seem to be inching closer in sealing the move for Claudio Ranieri’s successor as a long-term contract is on the table for the Italian tactician.

TMW reports, via ForzaRoma.Info, that the capital side are prepared to hand the 67-year-old coach a three-year contract worth a total of €15m across three seasons with the Giallorossi.

Roma have been heavily impressed with Gasperini throughout his nine-year tenure in Bergamo, as the Italian coach guided Atalanta towards European football qualification for the first time in 26-years after his first season in 2017, obtaining a Champions League berth for the first time in the club’s history in 2019, reached the Champions League quarterfinals in 2020 in which they unfortunately lost to PSG, and clinching Atalanta’s first-ever European trophy in 2024 after thrashing Bayern Leverkusen 3-0 in the Europa League finals.

Whilst former Spanish international and current Como coach Cesc Fabregas has been highly rated as an ideal candidate to take over at the helm of Roma, it seems that the former Barcelona midfielder will either remain with Como for an additional season or perhaps take on the Inter job if Simone Inzaghi were to depart the Nerazzurri after the Champions League final.

With Claudio Ranieri set to resume retirement from his managerial career and set to take on a more back-office role for the capital club, the Giallorossi are eager to accelerate negotiations with Gasperini in order to announce their new appointment as coach of the Giallorossi and prepare for next season.
