The investigation into alleged criminal activities and mafia connections by ultras of Inter Milan and AC Milan is ongoing.

And that scandal will certainly drag on for some time.

However, the Italian FA investigation into Inter and AC Milan themselves could soon reach a conclusion.

Italian FA prosecutor Giuseppe Chine has been reading over the documents and testimony in the case for several months.

And the Gazzetta report that Chine is close to delivering his provisional verdicts.

Inter and Milan, as clubs, face possible fines. This would be for potential negligence or enabling of alleged illegal activities by the ultras.

Meanwhile, Inter midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu faces a potential suspension due to contacts with Curva Nord leader Marco Ferdico.

Also facing potential sanctions are Inter coach Simone Inzaghi, Inter Vice-President Javier Zanetti, and former Milan captain Davide Calabria.

Then, all individuals concerned will have fifteen days to contest the provisional verdicts.

Should they not do so, then they could reach a settlement with the Italian FA in mid-March. Then that would confirm any sanctions and bring the matter to a close once and for all.

On the other hand, should the parties not reach a settlement agreement, the matter could go to a sporting trial.

The Gazzetta report that this could begin in April or in May.
