Manchester City and Puma are set to work on a brand new kit to celebrate the Lunar New Year, it has been revealed.
It is the latest in a long line of kit-related developments concerning the Etihad Stadium club in the lead-up to the 2025/26 campaign and one that supporters are immensely excited about off the back of a challenging previous season.
Manchester City have already unveiled their brand new home shirt for the new season with the traditional sky blue and white colours this time featuring a textured sash element emblazoned across the front of the shirt – in reference to previous sash designs used on alternate kits.
There is a belief in various quarters that the away shirt for the new season will be predominantly black, while the third kit could take inspiration from water droplets in an ambitious approach from designers at Puma.
Now, as talk continues to circulate surrounding two exclusive kits to be released for the FIFA Club World Cup, a new report has detailed plans for a further design to be unveiled to supporters midway through the upcoming campaign.
That is according to new information revealed by Footy Headlines, stating that Manchester City and Puma are expected to release a special edition shirt marking the ‘Year of the Horse’ during the season, in a continuation of a club tradition celebrating the Lunar New Year.
It is claimed that while the details of the design remain unknown at this stage, the shirt will likely incorporate symbolism and imagery associated with the horse, and will be part of a wider collection including training wear, pre-match items, and lifestyle apparel.
More details will reportedly become available closer to late 2025, according to the release.
This could mark the third year running that Manchester City have released designs around the Lunar New Year, following hugely successful unveilings around the Year of the Rabbit and Dragon.
It remains to be seen whether there could be a change of approach from the club and their partners this time around, with the previous two shirts not being worn on the pitch by players and instead were sold purely for stadium and supporter use.
Manchester City’s players would be likely to wear the shirts during warm-up duties ahead of fixtures and of course in commercial and promotional shoots to release the designs to supporters across the globe.
