Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu should be able to return from injury against Lecce next weekend.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInter1908. They report that the aim is to have Calhanoglu at his best for the derby against AC Milan.

Inter are not going to rush Calhanoglu back to the pitch.

The Turkish international is recovering from a calf problem. This cropped up during his recovery from a slight thigh issue.

Calhanoglu has already missed Serie A matches against Venezia, Bologna, and Empoli.

And there will be no chance of seeing the 30-year-old on the pitch against Sparta Prague in the Champions League on Wednesday.

However, a return shouldn’t be too far away for Calhanoglu.

According to the Gazzetta, Calhanoglu should be available for a call-up in next Sunday’s Serie A match against Lecce.

The Turk won’t likely start the match. But he’ll be in the squad, and could get some minutes off the bench.

Then, Calhanoglu will also likely be available for Inter’s Champions League match against Monaco. That will be their final outing in the “league phase” and could be decisive for round of sixteen qualification.

Then, at the start of February, Inter face AC Milan in the second league derby of the season. Calhanoglu will aim to be at his best for that decisive showdown with his former team.
