Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi received an important boost as Mehdi Taremi could return to the fold ahead of the Serie A opener against Genoa.

The Iranian joined the Nerazzurri last month on a free transfer from Porto. He immediately cemented himself as the standout performer in the club’s early pre-season tests.

The 32-year-old scored five goals in his first three outings, before suffering a muscular injury. This knock ruled him out of the club’s last two friendly tests.

But as we reported yesterday, Taremi has been making significant improvement on his path towards full recovery.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInter1908, the experienced striker could return to group training between Tuesday and Thursday.

This would be a timely boost for Inzaghi, as it would likely allow him to include Taremi in the squad that will take the trip to Liguria on the following weekend.

The Italian champions will kick off their Serie A defense campaign with an away encounter against Genoa at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium on August 17th.

Who Will Start For Inter Milan In Attack Vs Genoa With Mehdi Taremi Rejoining The Squad

So as the pink newspaper explains, Taremi’s return would give Inzaghi important options up front.

Thanks to their slightly early return from vacation, Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram should be fit in time for the Serie A opener.

Hence, the source expects last season’s golden duo to start against the Grifone.

On the other hand, Taremi would have the opportunity to come in during the last half hour. This would be the Iranian’s first appearance in Serie A.

As the source tells it, this was the club’s original plan when they signed the former Porto striker. The management considers him the right profile to act as a first backup for Lautaro and Thuram.
