Borussia Dortmund will face Paris Saint-Germain for the third time in this Champions League season on Wednesday evening (21:00 CEST). "We know PSG, and we are now one or two steps ahead of where we were before the first group game. We want to make up for that," Julian Brandt had said after qualifying for the semi-finals.

BVB and PSG have already faced each other on two occasions this season: BVB lost 2-0 away from home in the first match of the Champions League group stages, then secured top spot in the table courtesy of a 1-1 draw at home on the final group matchday. Karim Adeyemi fired BVB into the lead, before the French outfit managed to restore parity. But BVB could not be ousted from pole position in the group standings and PSG finished in second spot. "We didn't like the first game in Paris at all. The second game in Dortmund was very different, close once again, but we managed to be closer to the victory than they were," reflected coach Edin Terzic, before adding: "We're a much more stable team than we were in September or even in December."

After the group phase, BVB progressed through to the semi-finals by beating PSV Eindhoven (1-1, 2-0) and Atlético Madrid (1-2, 4-2), while the French side initially faced Real Sociedad in the round of 16. PSG laid the foundations for their eventual progression with a 2-0 victory against the Spaniards at home and followed that up with a 2-1 victory in the away fixture. Things were considerably more tense in the quarter-final, where the Parisians initially lost 3-2 at home to FC Barcelona. In the away game in Spain, the hosts put themselves on course for the semi-finals with an early goal but PSG stepped up their game, turned things around and won 4-1 to reach the last four.

In Ligue 1, Paris Saint-Germain defended their title as French champions last weekend. With three rounds of matches left to play, PSG currently boast an unassailable 12-point lead over AS Monaco. Their top goalscorer is Kylian Mbappe, who has already notched 26 goals in 28 Ligue 1 appearances this season. The forward has eight goals to his name in 10 games in the UEFA Champions League this term, including the opening goal against BVB. "In PSG, we will be facing an opponent with a high degree of quality that won impressively in Barcelona. We will prepare for both matches in a very focused manner," said sporting director Sebastian Kehl.
