Yesterday Inter Milan goalkeeper Yann Sommer suffered a thumb injury.

The Nerazzurri confirmed that the Swiss had undergone tests with the club’s medical staff. These showed a fracture to his right thumb.

The Corriere report that the injury was due to a shot bouncing off the frame of the goal and hitting Sommer’s thumb during training.

In the meantime, Josep Martinez will get his chance in the starting eleven.

The Spaniard will get his first chances in Serie A, as the backup to Sommer.

However, it will not only be Martinez who gets a unique chance.

Inter Milan Under-19 goalkeeper Alessandro Calligaris has already been part of the first team squad in recent weeks.

That is due to an injury to third-choice keeper Raffaele Di Gennaro.

But with Sommer on the sidelines, that means that Calligaris moves up to being Martinez’s deputy.

And so Inter need a new third keeper in the squad for the coming matches.

According to the Corriere, that will be 18-year-old goalkeeper Matteo Zamarian.
