Contract renewals happen to be a big priority for FC Barcelona this summer, it seems. Having already wrapped up several renewals, the club is now working on concluding others as well. However, there seems to be a unique case that Barcelona are addressing in a different way.

The club reportedly does not want to retain players with only one year left on their contracts. That is why most of the squad has already been renewed with new deals, and upcoming renewals for the likes of Jules Kounde, Frenkie de Jong, and Eric Garcia are already in the works.

As for the unique case, however, that happens to be the one referring to Andreas Christensen. Despite the Danish defender’s intention to stay at Barcelona, the club has yet to offer him a renewal to extend his stay beyond 2026.

The reason behind this, as per SPORT, is to give the player’s camp the hint that they would welcome his departure. Their hope is for the player to eventually leave, despite the fact that his professionalism is respected by the club and the coaching staff.

Still, the player and his camp insist that the player does not wish to leave just yet. He has faith in his own ability and believes that he will get playing time under Hansi Flick this season, despite the number of defenders at the club right now.

However, his significant salary is still a big concern for Barcelona right now. Either way, the report claims that there is interest in the player from Saudi Arabia and the English Premier League as well, making it an operation worth keeping an eye on.
