Alexander Isak is enjoying the kind of season Newcastle United hoped for when they brought him in from Real Sociedad. With 19 goals and 6 assists in 25 appearances, the Swedish striker has matured into one of the Premier League’s most feared forwards—and naturally, Europe’s biggest clubs have taken notice.

According to El Nacional, both Barcelona and Liverpool are showing strong interest. The report states: “Isak prioritises Barcelona but makes an exception for Liverpool.” That caveat could be crucial this summer, with the forward seemingly open to a move—but only under specific circumstances.
New Liverpool manager Arne Slot has quickly imposed his attacking philosophy at Anfield, guiding the Reds into another serious title charge. His progressive style suits players like Isak—dynamic, clinical, and adaptable.
El Nacional explains that: “Isak’s dream has always been to play at Anfield, and the current situation at Liverpool makes it even more tempting.” Sources close to the player have confirmed the striker is particularly drawn to Slot’s project, which may be accelerated should Darwin Núñez depart this summer.

Isak’s physicality, touch, and eye for goal are tailor-made for Liverpool’s system, and Slot is already reported to have him on the shortlist: “Isak, with his combination of power, technique and goal instinct, is one of the names the Dutch coach values to strengthen the attack.”
Barcelona’s admiration for Isak is long-standing. His technical ability and movement would fit naturally into Xavi’s (or his successor’s) attacking framework. But the reality is more complex.
“Despite Barça’s interest in Isak, the club’s financial situation continues to be a burden when competing with clubs like Liverpool,” notes El Nacional. With a price tag of nearly €90 million, Barça’s pursuit depends on major exits such as Ronald Araújo or Frenkie de Jong. Without those sales, the club will likely remain on the sidelines.

“Isak is willing to wait for signs from the Catalan club, but his patience won’t be eternal if Liverpool make the first move.”
Time is ticking. Liverpool’s strong relationship with Isak’s representatives could fast-track negotiations if they opt to proceed. If that happens, Barcelona could lose out on a top talent without even entering the bidding war.
As El Nacional perfectly summarises: “Isak wants to play for a top club, but he knows the Liverpool train doesn’t come around twice.”

For Newcastle, the interest is flattering—but ominous. Their star striker’s future could be out of their hands.
This report from El Nacional is incredibly concerning—if not unexpected for Newcastle fans. Isak has been their attacking leader, and his rise was meant to fuel the club’s European ambitions—not someone else’s.
The quote that sticks out like a sore thumb is: “Isak’s dream has always been to play at Anfield.” It’s difficult to digest that for Newcastle supporters when he’s under contract at St James’ Park, adored by the fanbase, and thriving in black and white. But football is cruel that way.
If Liverpool are seriously circling, Newcastle must respond swiftly. Not by starting a bidding war—but by reinforcing the project. That means committing to Europe, investing in the squad, and sending a strong signal to players like Isak that this is the place to fulfil your dreams.
He’s not just another goal-scorer. He represents the vision fans were sold—Newcastle challenging the elite, not selling to them. Losing him now, especially to a domestic rival, would be a hammer blow. The club must act before the “Liverpool train” leaves with Isak on board.
