Inter Milan strikers Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram have “made peace” after some tensions caused by the captain’s public outburst.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that the pair have messaged each other to get back on the same page.
Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez made plenty of waves with comments he made last week.
Speaking frankly after Inter’s Club World Cup exit against Fluminense, the Argentine implored “whoever wants to leave, leave.”
This was a thinly-veiled dig at teammate Hakan Calhanoglu.
However, the Turk was not the only player in the Inter squad who took Martinez’s words harshly.

It is no secret that Martinez’s strike partner Marcus Thuram also did not respond well to the way that Martinez spoke about the team after last week’s loss to Fluminense.
Most notably, the Frenchman liked a social media response by Calhanoglu calling Martinez’s comments “divisive.”
That brought about worry that there could be a rift between Martinez and Thuram.
It might be manageable to have bad blood just between Martinez and Calhanoglu. Particularly if the latter is set for an exit.
However, Inter certainly do not want to see the personal relationship between Martinez and Thuram deteriorate.
After a team meeting with coach Cristian Chivu in midweek, Martinez and Thuram reportedly spoke directly and shared a coffee before leaving for their respective vacations.
That was a sign that the two strikers were starting to mend fences.
Furthermore, according to the Gazzetta, the Argentine and French internationals have been messaging each other on their respective vacations.
The aim of these messages has been to “make peace.”
Obviously, there are still some hurt feelings. Both players are frustrate after the horror-show manner in which Inter’s season ended.
However, Martinez and Thuram have found common ground. Both are determined to have a better season with Inter next time out.
