Report – Inter Milan Could Pay Out Clause To Offload Italy Star This Summer | OneFootball

Inter Milan could pay out a clause to terminate the contract of defender Francesco Acerbi a year early this summer.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera, via FCInterNews.

It would be fair to say that Francesco Acerbi has been a key player for Inter Milan over the last three seasons.

The Italian international has been a stalwart at the centre of the Nerazzurri’s back three.

Having arrived with little fanfare, Acerbi was a decisive player in two runs to the Champions League final. As well as a Serie A title victory.

Moreover, Acerbi cemented his place in Inter folklore with his stoppage time equalizer in a Champions League semifinal second leg against Barcelona.

However, there are big doubts about the place that Francesco Acerbi has in Inter’s project going forward.

The former Lazio and Sassuolo defender turns 38 next season.

Moreover, Acerbi has had a couple of long spells on the sidelines with muscle injuries in the last eighteen or so months. Therefore, the doubts have crept in about his reliability.

Acerbi had been a player who Simone Inzaghi had specifically requested. And he certainly had his place under the 49-year-old.

But with Cristian Chivu replacing Inzaghi on the Nerazzurri bench, there is a sense that it may be time to move on.

As the Corriere della Sera note, Acerbi is under contract with Inter until the end of next June.

However, the Nerazzurri do have an option to terminate the veteran’s deal. They can pay him a clause of €500,000 and unilaterally terminate the contract.

According to the Corriere della Sera, Inter are seriously considering taking advantage of this option.
