Chelsea Secure £62.4m Quenda and Essugo Double Signing

Chelsea have bolstered their midfield options with the double signing of Sporting CP starlets Geovany Quenda and Dario Essugo in a deal worth approximately £62.4m, the Portuguese club has confirmed.

Quenda to Stay in Lisbon Until 2026

Highly rated winger Quenda, 17, will cost Chelsea up to £44m but will remain with Sporting until the end of the 2025-26 season. The teenager has already made an impact at first-team level, featuring in the Champions League last September.

Essugo Set for Stamford Bridge Move

Meanwhile, defensive midfielder Essugo, 20, will join the Blues in the summer after completing a loan spell at Las Palmas. Sporting has confirmed a fee of £18.4m for his transfer. The young Portuguese talent has impressed in Spain, although his disciplinary record – two red cards in his last four matches – may raise concerns.

Youthful Recruitment Drive Continues

While Chelsea supporters will have to wait for Quenda’s arrival, Essugo could be in line to feature in Enzo Maresca’s squad for this summer’s inaugural FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.

The Portuguese duo are the latest additions to Chelsea’s long-term recruitment strategy, which has already seen them secure the signings of two other 17-year-olds – Brazilian Estevao Willian and Ecuadorian Kendry Paez – for the upcoming summer transfer window.
