Chelsea retain an interest in Barcelona defender Jules Kounde and could make an offer for him in the summer according to reports.

The January window may have only closed at the start of the month, but that hasn’t stopped players already being linked with summer moves.

The Blues weren’t active in January, much to the annoyance of supporters, but they are said to have laid plenty of groundwork for potential deals in the summer.

Chelsea retain an interest in Kounde

Chelsea’s priority in the summer is believed to be a winger and a striker, with the Blues apparently having a five man shortlist of potential targets.

The club are said to be favourites to sign Ipswich striker Liam Delap, but the Blues could also do with reinforcements defensively.

Chelsea recalled Trevoh Chalobah from Crystal Palace, whilst they also explored a move for Marc Guehi, but they deemed it too expensive.

IIt’s a deal they could revisit it in the summer when the England international will have just 12 months left on his contract, with Tottenham also interested.

However, there’s another player the Blues could target and Spanish publication Sport have reported they still retain an interest in Barcelona’s Kounde.

Chelsea almost signed the France international when Thomas Tuchel was in charge, and Sport are reporting the Blues could be prepared to spend €100m to bring the 26-year-old to Stamford Bridge.

The report also adds that Barcelona aren’t prepared to sell Kounde and are keen to renew his contract, so any potential move would seem unlikely.

Enzo Maresca’s side certainly lack experience at the back, which signing someone like Kounde would bring, with Jason Cundy labelling the side fragile.

Whilst attacking reinforcements are seemingly the priority, the Blues can’t afford to not strengthen defensively in the summer.

The team are crying out for leadership and experience at the back and it’s about time the club replaced the void left by Thiago Silva.
