Liverpool’s summer recruitment drive shows no signs of slowing. Having already agreed a potentially record-breaking deal for Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz—worth up to £116 million with add-ons—the club’s recruitment team is now setting its sights on further reinforcements.
Their next move may involve Milos Kerkez, the Bournemouth left-back who has impressed in the Premier League. At just 21, Kerkez has shown defensive maturity and attacking flair, making him a natural long-term successor to Andy Robertson. While nothing has been finalised, Liverpool are understood to be progressing talks for the Hungary international.
This pursuit raises fresh doubts about Robertson’s future. Atletico Madrid are reportedly keen on the Scottish defender, and their interest could open the door for a high-profile exchange. With Robertson now 30, Liverpool may feel this is the right moment to refresh their left flank while still recouping significant value.
The Madrid club’s interest in Robertson isn’t isolated. Atletico have also made enquiries about Darwin Nunez. The Uruguayan striker has had a turbulent time at Anfield—brilliant on some days, frustrating on others—but remains a player with enormous upside.
Liverpool, under new head coach Arne Slot, may consider using both Nunez and Robertson as part of a wider negotiation to land one of the most explosive attacking talents in European football: Julian Alvarez.
Alvarez, who left Manchester City for Atletico last summer, has flourished in La Liga, scoring 29 goals in his debut season. “Pep Guardiola faced widespread criticism for allowing his departure,” and the Argentine’s form has only reinforced that narrative.
Transfermarkt currently values Robertson and Nunez at around £54 million combined. Liverpool would expect more in any swap deal, but even a modest cash adjustment could tip the scales in their favour, making Alvarez’s return to the Premier League a realistic possibility.
Liverpool’s apparent interest in Julian Alvarez represents a strategic recalibration under Arne Slot. The World Cup winner offers a rare combination of relentless work rate, clinical finishing, and positional intelligence—attributes that align with the Dutchman’s tactical preferences.

While Alvarez only joined Atletico on a six-year deal, there’s a growing sense that he could be tempted back to England, particularly if he is central to Liverpool’s long-term project. “Slot, however, now has the potential lure to bring the World Cup winner back to England.”
Liverpool’s position has been strengthened by their on-field success. Last season’s Premier League title and Champions League qualification have boosted finances and appeal. Despite the Wirtz deal’s high cost, club sources indicate funds remain available, thanks in part to a conservative spend in the previous window.
Should Robertson and Nunez both exit this summer, it would mark a significant evolution for Liverpool. Robertson has been a mainstay of the Jurgen Klopp era, and Nunez was once considered its next attacking focal point.
Their departures—especially if they help fund a move for Alvarez—would symbolise a shift in both personnel and philosophy. The recruitment of Wirtz, the potential signing of Kerkez, and now the serious pursuit of Alvarez suggest Liverpool are blending youthful exuberance with proven pedigree.
Whether all these deals materialise remains to be seen. But what’s clear is this: Liverpool are moving boldly in the market, with a clear vision for what comes next.
