According to a report from L’Équipe, Stade Rennais are looking to garner a club-record fee for Désiré Doué (18) this summer, amidst interest from some of Europe’s top clubs.
For the first time in seven years, Rennes will not compete in Europe next season. As a result, the Breton club are resigned to losing some of their most valuable and most promising assets, most notably Doué. The versatile midfielder, capable of playing out wide or through the middle, has impressed despite a season of mixed fortunes at SRFC.
Paris Saint-Germain are keen on keeping Doué in France, however, L’Équipe cite interest from three other clubs: Barcelona, Manchester United and Bayern Munich. The former may find a deal difficult to conclude given Rennes’ asking price. The Ligue 1 club are confident of Doué becoming the club’s record sale. Last season, Rennes sold Jérémy Doku to Manchester City for €66m. A fee rising as high as €70m has been touted.
A deal may also be difficult for Manchester United, giving the ongoing restructuring of the club, as well as Bayern Munich, whose managerial situation remains unresolved. However, L’Équipe understands that there will be no shortage of interest and should multiple teams come to the negotiating table, that ambitious €70m fee may be reached for a player considered on of the most talented of his generation.
