An investigation into the extra-sporting activities of La Liga referee José Munuera has been kicked into gear by the RFEF.
That’s according to Diario AS, who have on Tuesday provided an insight into the situation.
Official Munuera was of course at the heart of the headline talking point of the weekend in Spain’s top-flight.
This came after the referee made the call to show a straight red card to Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham, during the club’s meeting with Osasuna.
The dismissal came completely out of the blue, after Munuera was left unhappy with comments direct at him by Real’s midfield standout.
And the unusual nature of the incident, as alluded to above, has early this week culminated in a formal investigation being kicked into gear.
As per a report from AS:
‘The RFEF is investigating whether Munuera’s extra-sporting activities could be incompatible with point 9.1 of the Regulatory Code, which arises “when the persons bound by this rule (among whom are the referees) have secondary interests that may interfere with the fulfillment of their professional obligations”.’
Munuera for his part founded Talentus Sports, a company which deals with ‘consultancy and sports management’.
Amid concerns regarding a potential conflict of interest, ‘alarm bells’ have been set ringing at the RFEF, who have in turn kicked into gear an in-depth investigation.
