Despite both teams, the Los Angeles Galaxy and the Seattle Sounders FC, advancing to the Knockout Round of the 2025 Leagues Cup, the defending MLS Cup champions are reminded why they are most likely not a playoff team this year.

In a rematch of the 2024 MLS Western Conference Finals, the LA Galaxy lost in a 4-0 shutout against the Seattle Sounders. Very little went right for the Los Angeles Galaxy.

The Los Angeles Galaxy's worst season in recent memory continued with another own goal to start things off. LA Galaxy defender Julian Aude put one in his own net in the 25th minute.

Because of a lack of production from the LA Galaxy's offense, that was more than enough to secure the win for the Seattle Sounders. Daniel Musovski scored twice to add to the LA Galaxy's demise.

Things did not go in favor of the LA Galaxy against the Seattle Sounders.

In the last four head-to-head match ups prior to Sunday night between the six-time MLS Cup winners and the Seattle Sounders, the LA Galaxy have won 2-1-1.

Going 1-0-1 against Seattle in the 2024 MLS regular season, the LA Galaxy only lost once against Seattle during the Leagues Cup last year. The Galaxy got revenge in the MLS Western Conference Finals.

The LA Galaxy held a 5% possession advantage. Unfortunately, the Seattle Sounder racked up 23 shot attempts and eight of which were on target. The LA Galaxy only saw three of their eight shot attempts on target.

Six corner kicks were conceded by the Los Angeles Galaxy. The Galaxy's keeper Novak Micovic had more saves than Seattle's goalie Andy Thomas. It still wasn't enough to give the LA Galaxy their fourth win of the 2025 MLS regular season.

With the playoffs now being nearly impossible, the LA Galaxy can only hope for a respectable finish in their next few games this season. For the second time in the past three seasons, head coach Greg Vanney sees his team outside of the playoff picture.

Next up for the LA Galaxy is a road game on Saturday against Inter Miami. The two teams battled in the season opener last year, tying 1-1.
