Real Madrid secured a win in extremis over RCD Mallorca on Wednesday night, with a 95th minute winner from young defender Jacobo Ramon preventing Barcelona being declared champions. It was a day of headlines for Los Blancos, but perhaps most focused on defender Raul Asencio.
Beyond their victory at the Santiago Bernabeu, earlier in the day, a deal advanced for Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen to sign for Real Madrid this summer. However his potential partner in central defence, Asencio, was also in action for 64 minutes against Mallorca before coming off for Jesus Vallejo injured.
Just hours before the game, it was communicated by the High Court for Justice in the Canary Islands that their investigation into Asencio and three more former Real Madrid academy players had been concluded, and that the public prosecutor and the two victims were now able to press charges should they desire. The four stand accused of recording and distribution of sexual content without consent, and alleged distribution of child pornography.

After the game against Mallorca, Asencio took to Twitter/X to put out a message, and referenced the earlier announcement.
“Today it was about focusing on what’s happenning on the pitch, supporting the team and living up to the badge. Thanks to those who are there and continue believing in us.”
With Asencio gaining an increasingly prominent role at Real Madrid, he has become a regular target for opposition fans, and in late February was substituted after being affected by abuse from Real Sociedad supporters. Asencio has spoken on the incident that he is ‘calm’ about what happened as he is ‘conscious of what he did’.
Andres Martin, Ferran Ruiz and Juan Dominguez are the other less high profile players accused of the same crimes, and Girona received widespread criticism from their own fans after Ruiz made his La Liga debut earlier this season.
