The past few months have been simply too memorable for Real Madrid youngster Gonzalo Garcia.
The La Fabrica product, who had already been standing out for Castilla, stole the show at the FIFA Club World Cup, where he scored four goals and finished as top scorer. It earned him a permanent place in the Merengues’ first team under Xabi Alonso.
From there on, Gonzalo’s career has been on a sharp upward trajectory, and now the time has come for him to represent Spain, even though, for now, it is only the U-21s.
Indeed, as per Mundo Deportivo, the Real Madrid youngster will make his debut for the Spanish U-21 national team this Friday against Cyprus, before facing Kosovo next Tuesday.

Although he was not named in the senior Spain squad, the striker received a call-up for the U-21 for their Euro qualifiers, where he will be under the orders of David Gordo.
But there is no doubt he will be closely monitored by the Spain senior team coach, Luis de la Fuente. In fact, Garcia was among a few select U-21 players who were called up to train with the La Roja senior players on Monday.
As such, Gonzalo knows full well that if he impresses on his call-up with La Rojita, it could be a huge breakthrough for him and it would boost his chances of earning a ticket to the senior side – and therefore to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
At the same time, it could also enhance his claim for a starting role in Xabi Alonso’s Real Madrid attacking line, where places are currently more contested than ever.
