This past week, reports emerged claiming that Real Madrid have been closely monitoring the progress of Arsenal and France defender William Saliba.

Given the fitness problems that Los Blancos have had in the centre-back department in recent times, coupled with the advancing ages of Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba, it would make sense for them to future-proof the defensive unit.

Saliba, to that end, could be a top acquisition, considering that he is counted among the best defenders currently in Europe, as evident by his nomination for the 2024 Ballon d’Or.

Saliba could cost €120 million

However, now, according to Caught Offside, it would take a sum of at least €120 million for Real Madrid or any other club to lure William Saliba away from Arsenal.

The report states that apart from the reigning Spanish and European champions, two other heavyweights – PSG and Bayern Munich are also interested in the 23-year-old.

However, Saliba is tied down to a long-term contract until 2027 at Arsenal and the Gunners would be under no pressure to sell him in the summer next year.

As such, it would take an offer of around at least €120 million to get the Premier League giants to consider the prospect of selling Saliba.

Funding such a move for the French international could prove to be a tricky proposition for Real Madrid as they are also said to be eyeing a big-money move for Bayer Leverkusen sensation Florian Wirtz.

In addition, the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alphonso Davies are also on the club’s agenda, and even though they could be available for free, the full-back pair would demand significant bonuses and salary.

So, it remains to be seen how Real Madrid decide to proceed with their interest in Saliba come 2025.
