It is evident that Real Madrid urgently need a new midfielder to fill the void left by Toni Kroos, a fact acknowledged even by the former player himself.

This gap has disrupted the plans of Carlo Ancelotti and now Xabi Alonso. Since the German midfielder retired, Real Madrid’s stars have lacked a player to control and orchestrate play from the midfield.

Now, with Luka Modric also leaving, the need for a new midfielder has grown, and one name – Manchester City superstar Rodri – continues to be heavily linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Real Madrid considering €115 million offer for Rodri

Now, according to reports in England, as relayed by SPORT, Real Madrid are prepared to offer £100 million (€115 million) to sign Rodri from Manchester City this summer.

While Ancelotti accepted the club’s decision to not invest in a midfielder, Alonso, aware of the shortcomings of the project he is beginning to lead, is not prepared to take that risk.

The FIFA Club World Cup highlighted this continued weakness, which has made him determined to demand that Real Madrid aim high in the transfer market, with Rodri in his sights.

A move for the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner will not come cheap, given he is contracted with Manchester City until 2027, and Real Madrid are now considering a €115 million proposal.

Obstacles in the transfer pursuit

However, there are several obstacles to this operation. Rodri has recovered from a serious knee injury that kept him out for most of last season.

The midfielder barely returned in time for the Club World Cup held. During the tournament, Pep Guardiola managed his playing time carefully, and he finished the competition with minor physical issues due to his long period of inactivity.

As such, the technical staff need confirmation that Rodri has returned to his previous elite level after his serious injury a year ago.

In addition, there is also Guardiola’s resistance to losing the player he considers his extension on the pitch.

Beyond that, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is reluctant to authorise big-money transfers unless the player has the necessary media appeal – the so-called ‘Galacticos’.
