A member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid has on Saturday notched his first league assist since all the way back in 2022.
The player in question? Ferland Mendy.
Real Madrid are of course currently locked in action, in a meeting with an in-form Real Betis at the Estadio Benito Villamarín.
As things stand, the visitors are in possession of a slender advantage, leading by a goal to nil.
This comes after a fine team move culminated in Brahim Díaz breaking free in the Betis penalty area, to slot an unerring finish into the roof of the net.
And as alluded to above, in the process, the Moroccan helped a fellow member of Carlo Ancelotti’s squad to bring to an end a lengthy stretch without an assist.
Mendy was responsible for the pull-back from which Brahim found the net, a pinpoint left-footed pass.
And this marked the first La Liga assist for the French defender since all the way back in October of 2022, over 800 days ago.
*Update* – Real Betis have since equalised through Johnny Cardoso.
