Real Madrid reach decision on Luka Modrić’s future, with Arda Güler in mind | OneFootball

The powers that be at La Liga giants Real Madrid have reached a decision on the future of Luka Modrić.

That’s according to Relevo, who report that the brass in Spain’s capital have concluded that the best route forward comes in the form of a parting of ways this summer.

Modrić will of course see his contract expire at the end of June, a situation which has left the Real Madrid board with something of a dilemma.

The Croatian international has reestablished himself as a central figure in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad of late, proving a stellar rotation option in the middle of the park.

The fact, however, remains that Modrić is set to turn 39 later this year.

And, if the latest word stemming from the media is anything to go by, it would appear that the latter fact has proven decisive in the call made by Los Blancos.

As per Relevo:

‘His contract ends on June 30 and, as Relevo has learned, the club is not willing to offer him to continue.’

The former Tottenham standout is for his part eager to stay put, even willing to take a pay-cut to increase his chances of as much.

Real Madrid, however, want to make room in their engine room ranks for emerging talent, with Turkish sensation Arda Güler front and centre.

The 19-year-old is a player ‘who they see capable of following in Modrić’s footsteps in the center of the field’, therefore ready to afford him a considerable uptick in playing time next season.

An official announcement regarding Modrić’s exit is expected imminently, after which the La Liga champions will hold a farewell ceremony befitting of one of the greatest midfielders of the modern era.
