It is not easy to become a captain at Real Madrid, but midfield ace Federico Valverde achieved quite the feat when he was confirmed as the fourth captain at the start of the season.

Valverde was appointed as a captain at Real Madrid alongside veterans Luka Modric, Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez.

Federico Valverde’s elevated role at Real Madrid

A recent report from MARCA has highlighted how Valverde’s status and responsibility may increase following the injury to Dani Carvajal.

With the right-back ruled out for the season, Valverde is on the verge of achieving one of his greatest personal goals: wearing the captain’s armband for Real Madrid.

As the third captain in line, the Uruguayan midfielder is on the verge of wearing the coveted Real Madrid captain’s armband for the first time in an official match – a dream he has harboured since his early days at the club.

At 26, with 270 appearances in the famous white shirt, Valverde has already established himself as an indispensable figure in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad.

His ability to play multiple roles across the midfield, coupled with his consistency and tenacity, has earned him the trust of the coaching staff and the admiration of the Santiago Bernabéu faithful.

Valverde’s ascension to a Real Madrid captain, therefore, was deserved, to say the very least. The onus is now on him to step up his leadership role further as Real Madrid gear up for a transition.

In the past, the Real Madrid team has been led by able leaders such as Raul, Marcelo and Sergio Ramos. Valverde himself is aware of the task ahead of him, but he is not afraid and is more than willing to take on the responsibility.

With a contract until 2029, Valverde’s future at Real Madrid looks bright, and as his leadership role expands, so does the belief that he is destined to become the club’s next captain, especially once the likes of Modric, Carvajal and Vazquez either leave the club or retire.
