Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has defended England international Jude Bellingham following the criticism he faced after the first leg UEFA Champions League encounter with Manchester City last week.

After exceeding expectations in his first few months at Los Blancos, Bellingham is enduring his first minor dip of form in his Madrid career. The 20-year-old scored 17 goals in his first 20 games at the club, but has managed to find the back of the net on just three occasions in the last 13 matches.

This dip in form is mainly because of some issues with his ankle, which has restricted his ability to perform at a consistent level. However Ancelotti was quick to remind critics of Bellingham’s age and believes he will become one of the most important players for the club in the near future.

“Don’t forget that Jude is only 20. He’s fantastic. He will be one of the most important players in the future,” said Ancelotti.

“Bellingham is very good, a modern player. Very strong, very technical and I have no doubts about him.”
