On Sunday, we shared news of Real Madrid defender Ferland Mendy’s remarkable turnaround, which has been so impressive that the club is now considering extending his contract.

Mendy’s current contract with Real Madrid is valid until 2025, giving him at least another year with the club under his current terms.

Now, Bernabeu Digital reports that while reaching a renewal agreement with Mendy will be pretty much straightforward, there is still uncertainty about the length of his new contract. But early indications are that he could be renewed until 2027.

The French full-back’s recent performances have caught the eye of Real Madrid’s management, prompting them to consider offering him an extension.

Mendy’s improved form and contributions to the team’s success, especially in the last few games have likely played a significant role in the club’s decision to renew his contract.

Carlo Ancelotti played a big role

Mendy’s time with the club has been marked by more time away from the team than with them. His ongoing muscle issues have kept him off the field and frustrated the club’s board, as they find his lack of availability problematic for the coach’s plans.

Despite these challenges, Carlo Ancelotti has consistently shown trust in him. He has stood by the player even during his difficult moments caused by injuries. This consistent belief has left Mendy feeling a sense of gratitude and loyalty toward him.

The Real Madrid board appears to have moved past Mendy’s earlier struggles and is now considering extending his contract.

Interestingly enough, both club president Florentino Perez and general director Jose Angel Sanchez recognize Mendy’s importance to Ancelotti’s plans, which explains their decision to pursue the extension.

Mendy will not leave Real Madrid

While there shouldn’t be any significant obstacles in reaching an agreement with Mendy, a discussion with his agent is still necessary to finalize the terms.

The length of the contract will play a pivotal role in the negotiations, with indications suggesting that his contract will likely be extended through 2027.

By securing Mendy’s continued presence, the club supports Ancelotti’s strategy, retains a strong defender, and keeps the possibility of a future transfer open should another player, like Alphonso Davies, join the squad in 2024 or 2025.
