In a recent report, Marca mentioned that Real Madrid have identified Arsenal defender William Saliba as a target. It is understood that Los Blancos are hoping to land the France international this summer.

Saliba’s Good Form In North London

Saliba enjoyed a solid campaign at the North London club as he produced a series of impressive displays at the centre of their backline. The French talent participated in 51 matches for Arsenal last season, scoring two goals in various competitions.

The 24-year-old was a rock at the back after he made 62 tackles, 25 blocks and 21 interceptions in the Premier League. He was even excellent when distributing possession from the back based on his pass completion rate of 94.3% in the English top flight (stats via fbref.com).

Saliba is under contract at the Emirates Stadium until the summer of 2027. Hence, it won’t be easy for Los Blancos to get a deal done for him on the cheap this off-season.

Should Real Madrid Boss Xabi Alonso Get Saliba On Board?

Saliba is a good tackler of the ball and can sense the danger well to earn possession back for his team. He usually puts his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot and can use his powerful 1.92m frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air.

The France international is even proficient at playing his way out from the back. He has got a wealth of experience at the highest level and is well-equipped to make an instant impact at Real Madrid if they manage to snap him up this summer.

Saliba would bring more bite and steel to Los Blancos head coach Xabi Alonso’s defence. He has what it takes to compete for regular first-team football at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium next season.

At 24, Saliba has his peak years ahead of him which makes him a worthy target for Los Blancos to consider this summer. However, there are some concerns over whether he can make a smooth transition to life in La Liga. Still, Alonso would be wise to go all out to bring him on board in this transfer window. He might even help the Madrid giants compete for some major honours in the coming seasons.
