Real Madrid are reportedly targeting a star at Liverpool to replace Luka Modric. It could cost them £60m.

DSports radio in Argentina claim Real Madrid have set their sights on Alexis Mac Allister. Now, this wouldn't be a 2024 transfer - they're looking into 2025 when a new midfielder would replace Luka Modric and Toni Kroos.

The report claims there's even a release clause in Mac Allister's contract of £60m. Real are preparing to trigger it next year as they look to bring in an experienced midfielder to replace their ageing stars.

And Mac Allister certainly has experience. He's just coming to the end of his first season at Liverpool and will play in the Champions League for the first time next season.

Above all, though, it's the fact that he's a World Cup winner that sets him apart. There aren't exactly many of those midfielders hanging about - especially in what would be his prime years.

Real Madrid, then, have a plan in mind. But is it one they could enact?

Alexis Mac Allister to Real Madrid?

This is certainly the first we've heard about a release clause. Liverpool never put them into contracts, so we'd be shocked to learn that Mac Allister has one.

After all, he didn't arrive at Anfield with the kind of reputation that could swap Liverpool into changing their stance on release clauses.

And if there isn't a cause, then we don't see how Mac Allister could possibly be sold for anything like £60m. He's had an outstanding first season at Liverpool and we felt he was the best in the Premier League at one point.

A sale - again, assuming there isn't a clause - should push £100m. Of course, a lot could change in a year but we don't see how Liverpool could make this one easy for Real.
