This comes amid confirmation on the part of Marca that the brass at the Santiago Bernabéu have closed the door on the winter transfer window.

Carlo Ancelotti for his part requested reinforcements to his backline earlier this month, owing to something of a personnel crisis with Dani Carvajal and Éder Militão sidelined long-term.

And Florentino Pérez and co. did attempt to grant Ancelotti’s wishes, tabling a pair of offers for Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold.

In the end, however, no deal for the Englishman was found.

In the knowledge that Liverpool have no intention of altering their stance before the month is out, it is therefore concluded that:

‘Carlo Ancelotti already knows that the Real Madrid squad will not feature any alterations in this winter transfer market. Door closed.’
