David Alaba’s absence has been felt severely by Real Madrid this season in defence, with Carlo Ancelotti having had to constantly use the pairing of Antonio Rudiger and Eder Militao, leading to a season-ending ACL injury to the latter.

The Austrian international himself has been out with an ACL tear, which he suffered last December and is now closing in on a year out on the sidelines.

However, things are looking up for Alaba and Real Madrid as the former Bayern Munich man has resumed training with the ball earlier this month and could be back in full training in a couple of weeks.

Real Madrid fully trust Alaba for 2025

Corroborating those claims, Fabrizio Romano now reports that Alaba is indeed getting closer to making a comeback after nearly an out due to the ACL injury.

On top of that, the Italian journalist adds that Real Madrid have full trust and confidence in Alaba to become a key part of the team in 2025 once he is back in action.

This comes amid reports that Los Blancos have some concerns about the level at which the veteran defender would return following a serious injury and slow recovery.

In fact, some outlets had even suggested that Alaba might be forced into early retirement due to the complications with his recovery.

But Romano clarifies that retirement was never an option for the Real Madrid star, who is now closing in on making his comeback for the reigning champions of Spain and Europe.

With Militao out for the season and Ancelotti not trusting Jesus Vallejo, the return of Alaba will be a major boost for the Merengues even though a new centre-back could be signed in January.
