Having sold Miguel Gutierrez to Girona a couple of years ago, Real Madrid inserted an €8 million buyback clause for the left-back while also retaining 50% of his economic rights.

During his time at the Catalan outfit, the Spanish defender has flourished, attracting strong interest from big clubs across Europe.

Real Madrid also had been linked with a move for the former La Fabrica talent, especially considering the low buyback option amount.

However, Los Blancos have decided not to use that, opening the door for Gutierrez to secure a move elsewhere.

Napoli closing in on Gutierrez, windfall for Real Madrid

Now, according to MARCA, Miguel Gutierrez is close to leaving Girona. Napoli have launched a final push to sign the left-back and are prepared to put nearly €30 million on the table.

The player has a €35 million release clause in his contract with the Catalan club and the Serie A champions are offering a sum just shy of that figure.

If the transfer between Girona and Napoli is confirmed for the aforementioned figure, Real Madrid could receive a significant return of around €15 million.

Last season, Gutierrez had several opportunities to leave through a transfer, but he and his representatives decided to remain at Girona in order to play in the UEFA Champions League.

The Spaniard also held out hope that Real Madrid could re-sign him but that ship has sailed as the Merengues are working on signing Alvaro Carreras to strengthen at left-back.

Juventus and AC Milan had also been monitoring Gutierrez but ultimately, Napoli were the first to make a decisive move and have moved ahead of the competition.

The reigning Serie A champions are pushing to sign him and Real Madrid, having held on to 50% of his rights, will end up profiting.
