The debacle against FC Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final last night has once again sent alarm bells ringing at Real Madrid.

It was a second disastrous display of the season against the Catalans, who have now won both the Clasico fixtures this season with an aggregate score of 9-2, leaving Carlo Ancelotti & co. embarrassed.

The defensive frailties of the Real Madrid side were once again brutally exposed by Barcelona last night as they tore apart the backline, with Lucas Vazquez and Aurelien Tchouameni, in particular, struggling to no end.

Another move for Trent Alexander-Arnold?

As reported a while back, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez and his right-hand man Jose Angel Sanchez will meet Ancelotti in the coming days to try and find a solution to the club’s problems.

One option that Real Madrid would be willing to explore, as per MARCA, is signing a new right-back before the January transfer window closes.

And, having had an approach for primary right-back target Trent Alexander-Arnold knocked back by Liverpool, Los Blancos will likely launch another attempt for the Englishman.

It has become clear that Lucas Vazquez cannot be counted on at right-back for the rest of the season in the absence of Dani Carvajal.

And while Ancelotti had previously considered using Federico Valverde as a makeshift option in the full-back slot for important games, the Italian does not want to lose one his main midfielders.

As such, Real Madrid would be open to the idea of bringing in a new right-back this month, with another approach for Alexander-Arnold being very much on the table.

Liverpool, though, have been firm on their stance of not wanting to let Alexander-Arnold leave midway through the season, especially with the Reds challenging for the Premier League title.

So, it remains to be seen how the situation evolves as Real Madrid look to bounce back from their Super Cup humiliation.
