Heading into the new season, Real Madrid have been focusing on strengthening their defensive line after the struggles in the current campaign.

As such, the Merengues have already signed Dean Huijsen and Trent Alexander-Arnold while also working to bring in Alvaro Carreras from Benfica.

On top of that, Real Madrid also seem to be focusing on some contract renewals in the defensive department.

Raul Asencio, for one, will be rewarded with an improved deal after his first-team breakthrough and it appears that another defender will be given a new contract.

Real Madrid consider renewing Antonio Rudiger

Indeed, according to journalist Santi Aouna of Foot Mercato, Real Madrid are considering handing a new contract to veteran defender Antonio Rudiger.

A permanent fixture in the defensive line when fit and available, the German international is currently recovering from a knee injury that required him to undergo surgery.

Expected to be back for the FIFA Club World Cup next month, Rudiger has emerged as a target for clubs in Saudi Arabia.

In fact, the 32-year-old centre-back was spotted enjoying a meal with ex-Real Madrid defender and Al-Nassr director Fernando Hierro recently, fuelling the speculations.

However, as per the report, Rudiger’s priority remains continuing playing for Real Madrid where he feels comfortable and happy.

The former Chelsea ace’s contract expires in 2026 and as such the Merengues are now looking into the possibility of offering him an extension.

For now, though, Rudiger will be focusing on successfully recovering from his injury and helping the team out at the FIFA Club World Cup set to start in the USA in under two weeks.
