Lucas Vazquez’s future at Real Madrid is still up in the air, but things are leaning towards a departure.

According to journalist Rodra (via RM4 Arab), the 33-year-old right-back has not made a final decision just yet.

However, with his contract set to expire at the end of this season and no new offer on the table yet, it seems more likely that the club captain will leave than stay for another season.

Conversation pending with Vazquez

The journalist mentions that Real Madrid are expected to sit down with the player soon to discuss his options.

While the club respects Vazquez’s opinion—he is, after all, a long-serving figure and one of the captains—they are also planning ahead.

The anticipated arrival of Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool and the recovery of Dani Carvajal have made Vazquez’s spot in the team uncertain. The pathway back into the squad is now blocked, making his departure more realistic.

Club World Cup decision still pending

Although Vazquez has always hoped to continue his journey at Real Madrid, he may now be forced to consider other options.

One open question remains whether he might sign a short extension to take part in the FIFA Club World Cup. That possibility will reportedly be discussed in the coming weeks within Real Madrid.

As it stands, Vazquez is already free to negotiate with any club, unless there is a sudden turnaround.

Even without a contract renewal, his time at Real Madrid has been filled with success—22 trophies, including five UEFA Champions Leagues and four La Liga titles.

If he does leave, Vazquez will do so with the respect and admiration of the entire club and fanbase. His dedication, versatility, and professionalism will be remembered for years to come.
