Despite the widespread backlash, the European Super League, backed by Real Madrid and Barcelona, continues to fight on, with the CJEU ruling last month against UEFA and FIFA coming as a boost.

Now, plans for the competition with a revamped format are already in the works and it appears that there is a possible start date decided for the Super League as well.

Indeed, the Super League has intensified talks with European clubs at the start of the year and the plan is for the competition to begin in September 2025, reports AS.

The Super League further claims to have already “twenty teams very motivated and another thirty almost convinced; we could start tomorrow,” according to secretary general Anas Laghrari’s statements to ‘Ouest France’.

Internal sources close to the project state that “the objective is to start the new competition in September 2025, and to do so with the best teams in Europe and also with English clubs.”

The sources further told AS that there are teams that are publicly opposing the Super League, but are privately keen on joining.

“There are clubs that have privately signed up to the project and have publicly opposed it,” they say.

Countering UEFA’s argument that the Super League will be an elitist competition, the new competition insists that ‘the project has been modified and is open, fair and participatory’.
