Real Madrid have struck a deal with Liverpool to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold ahead of schedule, allowing the right-back to feature in their full Club World Cup campaign this summer.

The Spanish side will pay a one-off fee of €10 million (£8.4m) to bring the 26-year-old in early. Alexander-Arnold has agreed a six-year contract with Los Blancos, which will run from 1 June 2025 until 30 June 2031.

Originally, the England international was due to join Madrid on a free transfer once his Liverpool contract expired at the end of June. That would’ve ruled him out of Madrid’s three Club World Cup group matches in the United States.

However, Madrid approached the Merseysiders to explore the possibility of an earlier release, and after talks between the two clubs, a solution was found. The England international will now complete his move immediately.

Back in October, FIFA approved a proposal allowing national associations to open a special registration window between 1 and 10 June, specifically to let clubs register new signings for the Club World Cup.

Alexander-Arnold leaves his boyhood club after 354 appearances and a glittering spell at Anfield, during which he won the Champions League, Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, two Premier League titles, the FA Cup, two League Cups, and the Community Shield.
