Real Madrid are eyeing not one but two potential free-transfer signings from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2025.

The Merengues interest in Alphonso Davies has been known for a long time and they are well-positioned to sign the left-back when his contract expires next year.

However, recent reports have suggested that Real Madrid have also taken an interest in Joshua Kimmich – another Bayern Munich star who has less than 12 months left on his contract.

With Toni Kroos retiring this past summer and Luka Modric’s contract expiring next year, a new top-quality midfielder would be needed at the Santiago Bernabeu and Kimmich is one of the names under consideration.

Kimmich might prefer Barcelona

However, Real Madrid will face competition from their arch-rivals Barcelona in the race to sign Kimmich, with the Catalans being long-term admirers of the German international.

In fact, according to former Barça scout Bojan Krkic Sr., who also works as an analyst on SER Catalunya, the 29-year-old could be leaning towards a move to the Catalan club.

“Joshua Kimmich really wants to come to Barça,” he said, as quoted by Mundo Deportivo.

Continuing, the former scout added that great German and French footballers aspire to play for Barcelona despite their economic problems.

“Great German and French players, when you ask where they want to play, generally say Barça. Madrid also appear, but in general, the footballer wants to play for Barça, for their history, for the club, for their greatness and they don’t go into the economic problems,” he explained.

Bayern not giving up either

Meanwhile, it must also be noted that Bayern Munich themselves are not giving up on their hopes of keeping hold of Kimmich beyond this season.

Indeed, earlier today, the Bavarian giants’ president, Herbert Hainer, insisted that they hope to see the midfielder sign a long-term contract and spend the rest of his career at the Allianz Arena.

“I would be happy if he finished his career at Bayern. But not next year, but many, many years later,” he said.

It remains to be seen if Real Madrid are serious about their interest in Kimmich or whether they have other alternatives lined up.
