Huddersfield Town boss Lee Grant has pointed to the experience Aston Villa loanee Josh Feeney has gathered while playing in League One to stress the fact that the 20-year-old is capable of making another step-up.

Feeney spent last season at New Meadow and played 37 of Shrewsbury Town’s 46 League One matches, but was unable to prevent their relegation to League Two.

After returning to Villa Park following the end of his spell, he has yet again been sent out, this time to another club from the same division.

After getting relegated from the Championship at the end of the 2023/24 season, the Terriers failed to follow the Birmingham City route to earn immediate promotion.

On their second attempt, Grant insists that the addition of Feeney’s experience will stand them in good stead as they aim to cope with the demands of the busy schedule.

Grant is also optimistic about Feeney’s ability to make another step-up next season.

“I am delighted to bring Josh through the door here at Huddersfield Town, as he bolsters our defensive unit heading towards the 2025/26 season”, the manager told his club’s official website.

“Josh is a young talented defender who has a season of experience playing in this division, proving he can deal with the demands of a busy schedule, and is ready and capable of making another step up, as he becomes another addition to our back line.

“We are excited by the potential in Josh this season and we know that he’s motivated in helping Huddersfield Town and the Team towards our goals.”

The Terriers manager also took time to thank Aston Villa for trusting Huddersfield Town with the development of their young prospect.

“I would like to thank Aston Villa for their trust in assisting the development of one of their bright young talents, and we look forward to working with Josh as we head into pre-season.”

Feeney joined Aston Villa’s youth academy from Fleetwood Town back in 2021 but is yet to play for their first-team.

He has been a regular for their Under-18 and Under-21 teams.

The Huddersfield Town loan move is his third since joining the Villans.
