Rasmus Hojlund says he “expects” to play for Manchester United until 2030

Rasmus Hojlund has verbally committed his future to Manchester United despite widespread reports linking him with a return to Serie A.

A then-20 year old joined United from Atalanta for €77.8 million on the back of a promising first season in Serie A, in which he scored 10 goals in 34 games.

Having made a decent start in his first season at Old Trafford, scoring 16 in 43, the wheels came off the bus in 2024/25, when he amassed just 10 in 52 games.

This had led to intense speculation that United would be looking for a new striker this summer and that they were looking to offload the misfiring Dane.

Various reports this week have claimed that Inter Milan are pushing to sign Hojlund on loan with an option to buy him.

The Copenhagen-born star has reportedly given the green light to the move.

With United preferring a straight sale for around €40-€45 million (£33-£38m), negotiations are said to be ongoing as the two clubs try to find a compromise.

However, questioned after Denmark’s narrow victory over Northern Ireland last night about his future, Hojlund himself was very clear.

“I have a contract until 2030, so I expect to play for Manchester United,” he said (via Bold.dk).

“I’m looking forward to going on a summer vacation, and then I’m fully dedicated to the project that’s underway.”

Asked specifically about Inter, Hojlund replied:

“No. As I’ve told you before, I try to stay away from all that, because it’s both for better and for worse these days.

“I know I can’t get much out of reading things. I know what the facts are, and that is that I have a contract with Manchester United until 2030.

“I expect to play there, so I’m just getting ready for some summer vacation and then hopefully a good preseason, concludes Højlund.

“Expect” is a strong word, which he repeated twice. There is no “let’s see what happens” from Rasmus, as is usually the case when footballers are asked this question.

It is also worth noting that despite the daily updates on the Inter Milan story from the Italian media, notably Corriere dello Sport and Gazzetta dello Sport, not a single word has been posted on X by any tier one reporter.

Neither David Ornstein nor Fabrizio Romano have mentioned Hojlund at all. Gianluca DiMarzio, arguably the most reliable of all on Serie A news, has also been silent.

It remains to be seen whether there is smoke without a fire in this case, but one thing is certain: Hojlund is not agitating for a move.
