Manchester United are finally making good progress on trying to offload one of their key sales this summer.
With the arrival of Benjamin Sesko from Red Bull Leipzig and Joshua Zirkzee remaining a key member of the squad, there is a lack of space for Rasmus Hojlund.
He was left out of the squad to face Arsenal last week and it seems likely that his future will be away from Old Trafford.
Italian side AC Milan and his former club Atalanta have been linked with a move for the player, but neither deal has really got off the ground as of yet.
The striker was originally against the idea of a move as he wanted to stay and battle it out for a starting spot.
Nonetheless, he has eventually began to accept his fate but he has made it clear that if he is to leave, it is somewhere he can secure a permanent deal.
With Romelu Lukaku’s injury, Napoli have become much more active on the striker hunt and have honed in on Hojlund.
It was reported recently that the Serie A champions were confident of reaching a deal for him and Fabrizio Romano has provided another positive update.
The Italian journalist has posted on X that, he understands “Napoli are now advancing in talks to sign Rasmus Højlund.”
The issue with the deal has always been his reluctance to move but there is hope for an exit when Romano states that, “positive talks today with Højlund and his camp about contract terms and project for the long term.”
What’s more, “Manchester United are informed about talks and ready to get deal done if Højlund and Napoli agree on terms.”
Were Napoli to commit to keeping the player long term through a loan and an obligation to buy, this would most likely be enough of a commitment for the Dane to finally agree to an exit from Old Trafford.
