Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund has opened up on the difficulties he faced in his first few months at the club.

The Dane’s first season in England has been very hard to accurately assess.

He started off his Champions League campaign on fire, scoring five goals in six group games, however, he did not manage a goal in domestic competitions until Boxing Day against Aston Villa.

The striker enjoyed a purple patch in the winter and has finished the season strongly with two goals in two matches off the bench.

It means that with 16 goals, he is the club’s leading goalscorer this season and will hope to add to his tally in tomorrow’s FA Cup final against Manchester City.

The forward endured a significant amount of criticism at the start of his career in England and Gary Neville recently suggested that the player will never be a top level striker.

In an interview with Danish magazine Tipsbladet, the striker has revealed how tough those early moments were in his debut campaign but that he now feels much more comfortable in the English top flight.

“You feel an incredible amount of pressure when you’re at Manchester United,” he said. “It took some time for me to get going in the Premier League, but I think I’ve caught up quite well. I feel like I’ve found my rhythm.”

The 21 year old went into more detail on his goal drought by claiming, “it was a frustrating time leading up to my first goal in the Premier League, because I felt there was a lot of focus on it. But of course, I understand that it’s not impressive not to score a single goal in your first 14 Premier League matches, but I felt that bad luck was on my side in the league games. Fortunately, it got better.”

The forward would eventually experience the rush of scoring a Premier League goal on the 26th December when he netted an instinctive first time finish to give the Red Devils the lead against Aston Villa late on in the match.

“When I scored against Aston Villa, I felt like the curse had lifted a bit. It was a good day because I scored my first goal, and we beat a really good team.”

The forward also went on to state that he is happy with his first year in England on a whole and he is content with the progress he has made.

“Personally, it’s been a fine year for me, and I’ve tried a lot of things. I’ve played in the Premier League and the Champions League, and that’s something I’ve always dreamed of.”

The Dane will be hoping to cap off a solid first year in England by winning the FA Cup at Wembley for his boyhood side.
