Marcus Rashford is set to join Manchester United’s pre-season camp on Monday after failing to secure a transfer earlier this summer. The striker reportedly holds no issue with returning to the squad following his fallout with Ruben Amorim and loan spell at Aston Villa.
Rashford, keen on a move to Barcelona, is said to be prepared to train with full commitment and expects to participate fully in United’s preparations until any transfer is finalised.
Amorim sidelined Rashford due to dissatisfaction with the forward’s training attitude, stating in January he would rather have his 63-year-old goalkeeping coach on the bench than Rashford or any player not willing to give “the maximum.”
The manager has expressed no remorse over sending Rashford out on loan, even if it potentially cost the team as many as “10 goals.” He now faces a decision on whether to bring back the 27-year-old as he prepares for a friendly against Leeds in Stockholm on July 19, followed by three Summer Series fixtures in the US. It’s reported the two have had no communication.
A transfer would be beneficial for everyone involved, but obstacles remain. United are seeking approximately £40 million for Rashford, although they might consider another loan. Rashford prefers to join a Champions League side, avoids London clubs, and his £365,000-per-week salary is a factor.
During a three-week break in Spain, Rashford reportedly worked with private trainers to maintain his fitness.
