In a huge El Clasico final in the Spanish Super Cup, FC Barcelona have thoroughly thrashed and battered Real Madrid. Los Blancos may have taken the early lead, but it was La Blaugrana who emerged victorious. With this massive victory, Barcelona have won their first official title under Hansi Flick.
Even a significant 5-2 scoreline simply did not justify the kind of domination that Barcelona had in this game. Still, two goals from Raphinha, and one each from Lamine Yamal, Alejandro Balde, and Robert Lewandowski was enough to give Barcelona the victory and the title.
Here are the player ratings for the Barcelona players.
Player Ratings:
Wojciech Szczesny: 6.5
Was having a solid game until an unfortunate red card saw him get sent off. Not the kind of final that the Polish goalkeeper would have envisioned.
Jules Kounde: 8.0
The Frenchman did his part in reducing the kind of impact that Vinicius Jr had on this game, and that led to the Brazilian winger coming off without having too much of an effect on the match. Also landed himself a stunning assist with a pinpoint cross to Raphinha.
Pau Cubarsi: 8.5
A nightmare for the Real Madrid players to press, Pau Cubarsi was always cool and composed no matter what. Some of his line-breaking passes were simply absurd, and the way he dealt with some of the attacks from the opposition showcased his immense maturity.
Inigo Martinez: N/A
On a big occasion, Inigo Martinez ended up suffering an unfortunate fate. With an early injury, he was soon replaced by Ronald Araujo.
Alejandro Balde: 8.5
While his French teammate was more focused on the defensive aspect of his game, Alejandro Balde had other tricks up his sleeve. Running up and down the left flank, he was a constant pain to deal with for Real Madrid, and he eventually made sure to make it count when he scored a goal on a counter attack.
Marc Casado: 8.0
Similar to a lot of other players on the field, Marc Casado put his heart and soul on the pitch for Barcelona today. A strong display from the young Spaniard, and it was one that was very much needed and even more so after the team conceded an untimely red card.
Gavi: 7.5
Aggressive and always on the tail of a Real Madrid player, Gavi did not let them breathe. While he did have a quieter game than usual, the Spaniard was never one to give up too easily or even be lethargic in any duel that he contested.
Lamine Yamal: 9.0
When the entire team seemed to be down and out, Lamine Yamal grabbed them by the scruff of their necks and dragged them back into the game. A stunning goal from the young 17-year-old winger saw Barcelona find themselves back into the game and hungry for much more. Looked unplayable until he ended up getting substituted.
Pedri: 6.5
Undoubtedly a poor performance from the Spaniard, who just seemed sloppy and slow compared to his teammates. Always seemed to be a step behind when it came to his decision making, bar a few exceptional moments, and it really cost Barcelona at certain points.
Raphinha: 9.5
What a player, and what a performance. Two goals on their own was not enough, and the Brazilian forward even managed to get a beautiful assist as well. Started off with the captain’s armband, and even with Araujo getting it afterwards, the Brazilian never stopped being a leader on the pitch.
Robert Lewandowski: 8.5
Despite having a quiet first half, Robert Lewandowski still had a brilliant few moments that helped turn the tides of the game around. The first was his brilliantly placed penalty, and the second was his beautifully weighted assist to Lamine Yamal. Even his holdup play was brilliant in this final.
Substitutions:
Ronald Araujo: 8.0
Came on early for Inigo Martinez, but he was simply sensational for Barcelona. Despite all the noise surrounding his future, he came on and took the captain’s armband with pride. What a performance to hold off the likes of Vinicius Jr and Real Madrid.
Inaki Pena: 7.5
Suffered due to no warm up as the first shot he faced after coming on ended up in the back of the net. However, he soon grew into the game and pulled off a sensational save against Kylian Mbappe late in the game.
Dani Olmo: 7.0
Solid cameo, and definitely wanted to do more than he ended up getting to do in this game.
