The agent of Claudio Ranieri, Pietro Chiodi, gave an interview to Corriere dello Sport where he discussed the coach’s decision to return to Roma.
In the interview, Chiodi also said he was confident about the future of the club, ready to restart under the guidance of Ranieri and the Friedkins, eager to make the most of the numerous investments made.
“When he retired this summer, he said he would only return for Cagliari or Roma or for a national team, but to Roma in particular he would never have said no.”
“In this period of time he refused many other offers, abroad and in Italy,” he added.
“The first time we heard from Roma was right after the defeat against Bologna,” Chiodi continued. “We first met in Rome with Ghisolfi, with whom we created the conditions to go to London.”
“There was an immediate connection, right from the meeting with the sporting director in Rome. The two exchanged ideas on how they saw football and how they could work together.”
“An agreement was immediately found with Ghisolfi, later ratified by the lawyer Vitali. I can say that in this negotiation there were no gaps in the Giallorossi management, it is structured like many clubs, there were no hitches in the transitions from one role to another, nothing was missing.”
“The trip to London? Claudio’s wife, Rosanna, also left with us. There was immediate empathy with the Friedkins. We met in a hotel they had indicated, the night before we had stayed in another hotel, in places dear to Claudio, in Chelsea.”
“Dan Friedkin was with his sons Ryan and Corbin. They care a lot about Roma,” he added.
“Dan began like this: ‘I can’t bear the thought of not sleeping at night because Roma can’t win. I put in money and passion, I’m not willing to finish seventh or eighth.’ At that table I saw people who are huge Roma fans.”
“The level of the meeting was very high, they already knew Claudio for his history, the management structure is very solid, they are people who go straight to reach the objective.”
“The Friedkins didn’t say when they will return to Italy, but we had the clear feeling that they want to do great things for Roma. There was immediate sincerity between Claudio and the president.”
“Claudio also signed a two-year contract as senior technical executive: he will be a consultant to the owners for all the sporting matters of the club.”
“We talked for hours, Claudio explained his point of view. Everyone was waiting for Claudio’s normality, they went from the Special One to the Normal One.”
“As an agent I am absolutely satisfied, because when everyone leaves the table satisfied it means I have achieved my goal.”
“From a human point of view I was struck by the relationship that Dan has with his children. I want to compliment him on how the president has taken his children’s thoughts into great consideration. They exchanged opinions, in a horizontal relationship.”
“It is clear that the children have earned this trust, otherwise they would not have had this space. As a parent I hope that one day, when they are grown up, I will be able to have the same relationship with my children.”
“The children have a fantastic harmony with their father and have all been very respectful towards Claudio.”
“Claudio is very enthusiastic. The Friedkins have a more European than American mentality. It was nice to see that between the Friedkin family and Claudio there was immediately the desire to understand each other to make Roma great again.”
“Dan doesn’t sleep at night because of Roma’s results. The Friedkins want to win. In my opinion, the club has everything it needs to be able to do so. I discovered a humanity that I didn’t know about.”
“You can see that Ryan is more involved in things than the other, he cares a lot about Roma, even the youngest is very involved. They are people who feel bad when the results don’t come. Ryan explained some more technical things well to Claudio. I am convinced that they will be able to get great satisfaction”.
