Second-half goals from Findlay Curtis and debutant Djeidi Gassama led Rangers to a 2-0 first-leg win against Panathinaikos in the Champions League qualifier.
Scorers: Curtis 52', Gassama 78'
Panathinaikos created the first big chance as Filip Đuričić's close-range effort was smothered by Jack Butland and Facundo Pellistri fired past the post from the rebound.
Rangers also went close before half time when Mohamed Diomande's powerful long-range strike was tipped behind by Bartłomiej Drągowski.
The hosts took the lead early in the second period through Findlay Curtis, who cut inside from the left wing and thumped a powerful strike into the bottom corner.
Panathinaikos' chances of a comeback were dealt a blow when Georgios Vagiannidis was sent off with 30 minutes left for a second bookable offence.
The Gers' new signing Djeidi Gassama sealed the victory with a late second, striking low into the bottom corner past Drągowski.
The Scottish side will take a 2-0 aggregate lead to Panathinaikos in Champions League qualifier second leg next Wednesday.
