Despite being in for Pape Meissa Ba, the R's are also looking into a deal for a League Two forward

Queens Park Rangers are lining up a move for Colchester United forward Samson Tovide in a bid to strengthen their attacking options even further before the start of the 2025-26 Championship season.

The Hoops have committed to some eye-catching business this summer, with the likes of Kwame Poku arriving from Peterborough United after his spell-binding League One form, whilst Reading FC were raided for defender Amadou Mbengue.

New R's manager Julien Stephan is nowhere near finished in the window though, and attentions are turning to the striker position, which currently has Michael Frey, Rayan Kolli, Alfie Lloyd and Charlie Kelman - who is attracting interest from Charlotte FC and Luton Town - as options.

And according to West London Sport, QPR are eyeing up Colchester United attacker Samson Tovide, who is now in the final year of his contract at the Essex outfit after they triggered his one-year option.

A U's academy graduate after moving on from Leyton Orient, Tovide made his professional debut in November 2020, in the last four-and-a-half years, the 21-year-old has played 101 times for the U's, scoring 14 times in all competitions.

His best season however came in 2024-25, where he scored seven times and also notched five assists from his 29 League Two appearances, of which the Hackney-born striker missed a large chunk because of a hamstring injury.

Colchester manager Danny Cowley revealed earlier in July that there had been plenty of interest already in Tovide as he enters the final year of his contract, and despite QPR also being in talks for Schalke forward Pape Meissa Ba, they also want to land an up-and-coming EFL prospect to add to their attacking options.

Should QPR land both Tovide and Ba, and presuming they also cash in on Kelman, they will be well stocked up-front - a position that based on pre-season, Julien Stephan only has one starting spot available.

Michael Frey had a decent season in west London in 2024-25, scoring eight times from his 29 appearances, but Ba and Tovide would provide fresh competition and a different profile to the Swissman.

It would however call into question what the short-term future of prospect Rayan Kolli looks like, having scored four times in 21 Championship matches last season.
