Former Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho caused a stir with the controversial comment he made on Marcus Rashford’s Instagram post.

The 24-year-old had an unpleasant spell at Old Trafford between 2021 and 2024 marked by unconvincing displays and disciplinary problems. Last season, he revived his career with a brief loan spell at his former club Borussia Dortmund, but Erik ten Hag wasn’t too keen on giving him another chance, so he was offloaded to Chelsea last summer.

Nevertheless, the England international remains bitter about his spell at Carrington (particularly the time he found himself an exile at Ten Hag’s court), so he couldn’t resist the opportunity to aim a dig at his former employers through Rashford’s social media post.

The 27-year-old striker endured a similar fate to Sancho when he was outcasted by Ruben Amorim for almost two months which led to his loan move to Aston Villa. The Man Utd youth product made his debut for the Villains on Sunday night in the FA Cup tie against Spurs, and earned plaudits for his cameo.

After the fixture, Rashford posted a picture of himself giving the thumbs up, so Sancho decided to intervene with a one-word comment: “Freedom”.

Nevertheless, many fans and observers weren’t too impressed with the Chelsea man’s demeanour, including Jay Motty who described the winger’s comment as ‘petty’ and ‘moody’.

“It just seems like a reminder for me why perhaps Jadon Sancho didn’t work out at Manchester United,” noted the pundit in his appearance on Stretford Paddock.

Motty also suggested the former BVB should focus on doing well for Chelsea as his recent displays were less than thrilling, claiming some Blues supporters have already turned against him.
