PUMA hosted a launch event in New York in collaboration with KidSuper Studios .
The new Special Edition kits were officially unveiled in Manhattan, at an event celebrating the fusion of football and fashion culture
A special Man City zone featured a display of the new shirts, along with a Poznan mural, which features on the design of the jersey.
Brooklyn-based fashion designer Colm Dillane – known as KidSuper – presented his collection ahead of City’s participation in the FIFA Club World Cup.
The event concluded with a catwalk, with models and football freestylers showing off the new range
Six other PUMA clubs – who are part of the PUMA x KidSuper collaboration – were also in attendance.
Former City defender Joleon Lescott, who was in attendance, said: “It's been amazing – very impressive. There are seven different teams from different countries here and the vibe is great. The meaning behind every kit is important to each team, and that is key.”
Lescott added the design of the jersey taking inspiration from the Poznan was particularly poignant and a subtle touch he thinks City fans will enjoy.
“It’s probably a little bit more sentimental to me, having been part of the team that was playing during the game when the celebration was “stolen”, should I say.!” Said Lescott.
“In regard to the impact it's had on the club, we're recognized for that celebration now. I know we didn't originate it, but it's important to us as a team, as a club, and something that we should be proud of as a fanbase.
“At the end of the day, I'm a fan, too – our fans love a little bit of black and red in their away kits. Again, this kit is sentimental to me—the period of time I was at the club—and it brings a lot of fans together.
“I remember when it came out last time, and a lot of fans were really enthusiastic about the kit design, so I'm sure they're equally as enthusiastic about this one.”
Lescott says he expects City to do well in the Club World Cup and believes Pep Guardiola and his players will be going full tilt to defend the crown the club won in 2023. “I know a lot of teams spoke about not needing extra games, but listen, from a player's perspective, once you get out there, you want to win,” said the former Premier League winner.
“It’s a real opportunity to be the first team to win this competition—this competition will leave a mark in the history of the game. It’s quite unique and probably a big motivator.
“Pep and this group of players have created a history that no one's been able to create so far in the history of English football, winning four titles in a row.
“So, they deserve a lot of credit for that. I'm sure now they’re looking forward to creating a new squad, signing new players— they’re exciting times.”
