The race for this year’s Ballon d’Or appears to be between PSG winger Ousmane Dembélé and Barcelona standout Lamine Yamal. Lamine Yamal has impressed in domestic competition, but Ousmane Dembélé’s Champions League win and strong individual performances could give him the edge.

PSG finally got their hands on a long-awaited UEFA Champions League trophy—and did it in spectacular fashion. The Ligue 1 champions dismantled Inter Milan 5-0 in the 2024-25 final at Allianz Arena, delivering a dominant performance on European football’s biggest stage.

Dembélé set the tone with two assists as PSG took early control. Achraf Hakimi and Désiré Doué scored in the first half to give the French side a 2-0 lead at the break.

The second half was more of the same. Doué added his second of the night, while Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Senny Mayulu got in on the scoring to cap off a historic night and finally bring the Champions League title to Paris.

While speaking to France Football, Dembélé noted that he doesn’t discuss the Ballon d’Or race with Kylian Mbappé, as the two players, along with Yamal, are candidates for the honor.

“Do you tease him by saying you might win it before he does, or do you avoid bringing it up? No, no, we haven’t talked about it—we don’t joke around about that,” Dembélé said (via Le10Sport). “With Kylian, we’ve always said that winning team trophies is the most important thing if you want to win the Ballon d’Or.”

“The key is to go all the way in the big competitions and have a great season. If you do that, you have a chance to be crowned. That’s what we’re focused on—nothing more.”
